BEIRUT
Synopsis
I 1972 mistet den amerikanske diplomaten Mason Skiles sin kone og adoptivsønn i et terroristangrep i Beirut. Ti år senere bor Skiles i New England, en ensom dranker som livnærer seg som kontraktsforhandler i næringslivet - helt til USAs regjering tar kontakt. De vil at han skal dra tilbake til Beirut, offisielt for å holde en forelesning, mens det virkelige oppdraget er å forhandle frem en utveksling: en terroristleder i bytte for en CIA-agent. Men også det er en fasade som skjuler hva som egentlig foregår. Skiles må ikke bare ta et oppgjør med gjenferd fra fortiden, men står overfor et spørsmål som gjelder liv og død: Hvem stoler du på i en verden der selv sannheten brukes til bedrag?
