Synopsis
Petra drivs på flykt av en rasande mobb efter att ha förlovat sig med inte mindre än tre av hennes hembys mest eftertraktade män. På flykten mot Kristiania hamnar hon på en prästgård där en dansk prost och änkeman har sökt sitt kall tillsammans med sin dotter Signe. Hon ljuger för familjen, som tar in henne, och mellan Petra och Signe uppstår en innerlig vänskap. Men det förflutna kommer ikapp Petra och förhållandet med Signe skakas om när det uppdagas att de älskar samma man...
